Eco Church

St Mark’s church PCC have agreed that we should start the process of hopefully becoming an Eco church. Through this process we hope to reduce our carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutral by 2030.

We have registered our church with A Rocha UK who are Britain’s only Christian conservation charity. They focus on delivering practical local community-based action through churches, which form one of Britain’s biggest land-owners.

What does the process involve?

Churches complete the unique online Eco Survey about how they are caring for God’s earth in different areas of their life and work. The answers a church provides will collect points towards an Eco Church Award.

The survey takes you through five key areas of church life:

  • Worship and teaching

  • Management of church buildings

  • Management of church land

  • Community and global engagement

  • Lifestyle

Eco Church resources give lots of support and advice about how to make the changes your church needs to become an Eco Church.

Award Scheme

A Rocha UK’s Eco church encourages churches by having a award scheme. There are three levels of Eco Church Award – Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Events

There are various events organised through out the year such as Churches Count on Nature. This event is a unique opportunity for those who love their churchyards and church spaces to take part in the largest ever nature count this June.

The event in 2022 is between 4th -12th June and during that week anyone can come to our churchyard and record what wildlife, wild flowers, trees that they find in the churchyard.

On Saturday 11th June we are holding a family friendly event between 10am – 1pm with activities and refreshments.
